I have been catchin up on a lot of the posts, and they are really interesting. Something does concern me though; ppl throwing around the word 'slut' b/c they don't approve of certain outfits. don't get me wrong, I don't like the fact that women are expected to sell sex in the music industry...sex is an important part of life, but it is not all there is to life. PLUS, this isn't a very healthy understanding of sex if it is based solely on one's body. ppl should be able to wear what they want. Men are allowed to go topfree but wo,men can't, just b/c certain cultures have sexualized the breast. PLEASE!
and another thing, what's with the hiphop hatin? maybe ppl are jus listenin to the wrong hiphop. Hiphop is every bit as intellectual as rock/alternative.
trust me, i was a bit worried about the alvum when i heard promiscuous and maneater, but after giving the entire album a listen, I realized that many of the songs are very well-written and are NOT formulaic pop. she maintains her unique qualities.
we can all have diff opinions...i just hope thjat the name-calling can stop.

i get what you are saying REALLY! lol you know and another reason all this comotion is going on is because people can't except the fact that musically artist go though evolutions while still staying true to them selves. I've always thought of Nelly as an Artist who evolves. if she stuck with the complete same style over and over again it wouldn't be so fresh. you know she always has uniqueness. People are just too closed minded. and with the whole hip hop thing...I LOVE IT!!! another positive intellectual rapper is Common. Nelly Furtado is 27 not like a 12 year old girl so we should just except it that she is a woman who is sexy, talented, smart, funny, etc. nothing wrong with that. so yeah i TOTALLY agree with you guess

I've just watched her 'Turn off the Light' video on TV ... and it's as sexy as the 'Maneater' video ... Nelly jumping around in the mud with a crop top on. I also saw the Pussycat Dolls new video and then Nelly came on after with 'Maneater' .... the two are beyond comparison. Nelly's is sexy but not overtly so. The only time I get annoyed about groups/singers using sexy images on their videos is when the songs are really lame but the video gets voted for just because girls are writhing ... but perhaps if I was a guy I'd feel differently. I just wish there was a bit more equality as far as body shapes go ... you can get these really large guys singing but all the women are a perfect 10 or less .. that can have a knock on effect with eating disorders and breast implants etc ... but there's no need to call anyone a slut, it's only entertainment. It's ok for us to say Nelly is getting too sexy for our tastes but what the hell can she do ... she has massive talent but ... because of her pregnancy and a bit of weight gain etc ... nobody really bothered about 'Folklore' .. the singles didn't do as well as they should have and the press really didn't 'get' the album. If she didn't try and turn it around then we probably wouldn't have seen her for much longer .. I haven't seen anything from her which makes me think she's 'sold out'

i dislike the selling of sex also. i also realize that there are some amazing rap/hip-hop artists out there. i just dislike the ones selling sex. so i guess we agree!
