Whats your opinion on the death penalty??

Personly I hate the idea of the death penalty. I would rather have them locked up and the key throwen away.
What right do humans have to play God and decide whether or not a person should die or not reguardless of what they have done.
I mean that person could turn out to be innocent or something, so the result is that an innocent person is killed.

Presicely today I was watching The Green Mile movie!

The story about the lives of guards on death row leading up to the execution of an innocent black man accused of child murder & rape, who has the power of faith healing.

So dramatic

Maybe we, the humans, don't have any right to decide a person's fate, but so are we responsable of our actions as well.
There are people who choose to act wrong even knowing how tough the punishment will be.

i think there are positives and negatives to it, as there are to any form of punishment.

Positive : we get the mother f*ckers off the face of the Earth, never to harm another person again. A life for a life ... they deserve all they get. If they are killed, they have no way of escaping, or being released and offending again.

Negative : As you said furtado-freak, theres the chance that the person has been wrongly accused of the crime, are innocent, and therefore do obviously not deserve to die. Well ... i agree, its awful to think of innocent people dying whilst murderers and rapists are free ... but the number of innocent people accused of murder (or other majorcrimes that would result in the death penalty) are very few, and if there is any worry at all that they have the wrong person, they don't carry out the death penalty, they sentence them to gaol instead

Negative 2 : This may sound harsh, but i think for some cases death is just the easy way out ... let the f*ckers rot! The thing is (well in the UK anyway) that prisons are good places for some people to live! they get Sky TV and video games!!!! there are kids who have admitted they only robbed, or sold drugs or whatever so that they could go to prison, because they have a better life in prison than out! .... Anyway thats off the point, murderers should be punished ... and hey, people always complain about drugs being tested on animals, well we only test them on animals because thats the only option we have to decide whether they are safe for humans ... heres an idea, lets test the drugs on the people who would otherwise have had the death penalty

You make some really good points.
Yeah, murders should have a very small cell, kind of like how they had back in the days (it actually made the prisoners go crazy), in the dark with one blanket, some water and a bit of old bread. Give them their basic human rights and just leave them there in the dark...take them for a walk every few days.....
I know they willingly took a life and yeah it might be easier to kill them off but then you just sink to their level...

Of course. In a certain way, we're just doing them a favour. I think that those arses who've done a terrible crime, should be punished with, let's say, hard work or something that doesn't allow them to run away or distract them from their crimes.

Plus, nobody has the right to kill another person. Not even a killer or criminal. We'd be just the same as the killer if we punish him with death, too.

Even for 1 incorrect death penalty against a million of correct ones, you shouldn't do it in my opinion. And the real numbers are probably much higher.
Taking the lives of suspected murderers, using our self-declared authority as a government, is in my opinion not justice, but being as stupid and criminal as the murderer him-/herself, letting yourself lead by the same wave of emotion (e.g. anger).
If a country has the death penalty that's for me one reason not to go there if I don't have to. And as it is a sign of having a medieval morale, I probably wouldn't want to go there anyway.

God Those are real strong images you talk about....yeah I see what you mean but.....we are only sinking to their level!

Against it! It is not only archaic but as many people have said, it sinks us and the executioners to the level of the criminal.
