Way to ruin my day :(

So I've started my course (Diploma of Digital Media). It seems cool, bit of photography, 3d modelling and film and video work etc.

Unfortunately I read my schedule for Monday Arvo, I'll have lots of programming with javascript, thats a 1 hr long class. then the 2nd arvo class is making an interactive story in Flash and using javascript to program it.

I'm sure Vicious and Nico remember when i posted my java code here last year when I desperately needed help lol. It causes most of us to hyperventilate.

I'll have it throughout the year as well

Hmm dayum. You'll really have to get stuck into Javascript basics I think. Your course sounds like you'll be doing it now and again.

I don't know if the requirement is to use Javascript for Flash, but you can use Actionscript instead. I'd done some Javascript before (nothing major and just self taught) when I first used Flash and I prefered to use Actionscript. Things have changed a little bit though and I think they wish to really make Javascript a major part of Flash.

Is it Javascript you have issues with, or programming in general? I mean, have you worked with other languages? When I was first getting into programming I found I was just trying to memorise things rather than understanding why it's done a certain way. Everything just seemed so much clearer and things more easily fell into place once I got the hang of why things were done a particular way in programming.

I have no problem with Actionscript; I used it to program my flash projects with last year. We only did a 6 week introduction to javascript in cert 4 and the teacher saidthis may not be enough so we'll start from the beginning again this year.

Even my friends who did web design courses and web design don't like javascript.

Lol and I bet you I'll still be yelling 'I believe in you! You can dowit!'.

Just take it slow and easy when you're trying to absorb it all in.. hopefully you won't have many panic attacks!

If you already understand how Actionscript works, then it should not be that difficult to understand Javascript.

Naturaly they're not the same, but once you know the basic programming patterns, you can easily switch to another language.

Learn how to:
- create a variable of different types (string, array, number,...)
- create a function
- know the difference between for,while,do while
- use conditional statements (if,switch)

Once you understand these basic things, you can work with Javascript or any other language. Then there is ofcourse also the more Javascript specific functionality.
