True identity of Mona Lisa confirmed

A German expert has confirmed the real identity of Mona Lisa after centuries of speculation about the woman in Leonardo da Vinci's famous portrait.
It is Lisa Gherardini, wife of a Florentine cloth merchant named Francesco del Giocondo, said Viet Probst, director of the Heidelberg University Library.

Probst confirmed a German television report which said the discovery was made two-and-a-half years ago by the head of the university's handwriting department.
The expert discovered a reference to the Mona Lisa's identity in a handwritten reference on a document that belonged to the painting's early owner.
The owner was a contemporary of da Vinci and was in regular contact with him, according to the television program.
There has been lots of speculation about who the sitter was for the portrait, which was painted in Florence between 1503-1506 and now hangs at the Louvre in Paris.
Most experts believed it was the wife of del Giocondo, hence its alternative title, La Gioconda, although this was never conclusively proved.

ooo if this is true then thats great they've finally uncovered the secret, but im not sure i believe it, there are so many holes in the theory of eho the mona lisa really is ... i still go by Dan Brown's version

yeah i read that, whoa what an amazing book! except ... as if he would have survived that jump from the helicopter, lol

nah, the theory i mean is that the Mona Lisa isnt actually based on a person, she is a protrait of a cross between two gods, male and female ... i cant remember what they're called, but the name Mona Lisa derives from them ... i'll need to find the book and read it again, but im not sure where it is lol

And yeah, the helicopter part (and all that came after) was a bit too much. And I thought of that book and you while reading The Subtle Knife, the sequel to The Golden Compass, I'll look the quote up and tell you why
