I saw it and I really liked it actually......it's a real entertaining movie...but as an adaptation...it's awful an 'epic' it is not (esp. since the decade or so war was condensed into like two weeks), but who cares....it rocked!

Brad Pitt did a good job as Achilles...totally badass.... and Eric Bana did a fantastic job playing Hector. And Bloom as sissy boy Paris was perfectly cast. All the young doods did all the cool fightin' while the real actin was left to the veteran actors like Brian Cox and Peter O'Toole. So a nice balance there

It's no Iliad but we get the gist of it....lol. Good enough for me *thumbs up*

I could not agree with you more... I couldn't stop staring at her whenever she was on screen!

Most people seem to really love Troy, but I don't share that same amazement for the movie. Altogether, it was decent.. it was entertaining, but some parts made me almost laugh out loud (and they were not meant to be funny).

**** SPOILER ****

The fight scenes and 'epic' scenes were awesome, particularly the fight between Hector and Achilles, when all the Greek ships were coming ashore, when the rows and rows of men were lined up outside the castle, and my personal favourite, the giant straw fireballs.

However, I found other scenes and other particular actions to be just plain cheesy. Examples: Achilles staring longingly into the distance (almost always to his left side) every 5 minutes, and Hector petting/feeling off his armour as he is about to put it on for the fight of his life....

As well, some of the connecting scenes to 'develop plot' between action scenes just seemed unnecessary and dragged out, making the movie longer than necessary.

Perhaps I was in a cynical mood at the time I watched this film, but I just couldn't enjoy the movie 100%. There were really great scenes, and I thought the casting was great, but those other aspects spoiled the experience for me and hence, my mixed opinion.

Maybe if there were more scenes with Helen, with less clothing, my opinion could be swayed.

*edit*

P.S. - what's up with Hollywood making characters speak in weird, not-quite-british accents if the story takes place in any foreign country? I.e. British accents in GREECE.. LOL

I don't think I want to see the movie, I saw the trailer in the theatre last time and I'm sure it's all Hollywood. Wanting to make another epic movie, I sighed the moment when I saw all the ships. I wanted it to be a little more realistic, and than Brad Pitt in such a movie...I just dunno + Orlando Bloom, he was good as Legolas, but he really isn't a great actor. He really wasn't that good in Pirates o/t Carribean.
And now I read that they modified the story a little, I hate it when such things happen, certainly when it's a story like this.
