Oz Election

Ok, so the election date has been called. Who will you be voting for, Johnny? Kevin, or maybe a 3rd party?

My vote shall go to the Greens. I don't want to be swimming everywhere just yet.

Re: Oz Election

I'll probably be voting conservative, mainly because I think the ALP would be an absolute disaster for this country, (as they've been in the past)....... Personally, I think that the best result would be a return of the Liberals but with a reduced majority.... Last election saw them get a majority in the upper & lower house and this has meant that a lot of legislation has gotten on the books that shouldn't have, eg: the IR laws were totally rubber stamped...

My biggest issue with the ALP is 1: their hostage to the left, right & centre factions of the caucus and the unions play too huge a part in determining what goes on in the party.. 2: They also have an unfortunate tendency to focus on things which don't need to be looked at, eg: the republic issue, changing the flag, changing the national anthem, etc etc and put things like the drought, unemployment, lack of housing, poor infrastructure planning at local levels, energy, health, education and defence as things much too hard to think about..... (imo)

Having said all that, I'm still not sure that the Libs can pull a rabbit out of the hat, where people might be prepared to vote Howard back in, they won't do so, if they reckon he'll retire from politics and handover the reins to the likes of Costello, (who I believe is probably the biggest showstopper to the Libs retaining Government, no-one likes the guy)....

I'll be voting Labor because let's face it, Howard's going to retire soon and then who'll be there to take the job? Peter Costello, the biggest dickhead on the face of the planet.

Re: Oz Election

Well, it's all over bar the shouting, (thank God, coz we won't have to put up with election speeches, ads, 'the worm' anymore)......

As expected, the ALP have won back into office after 11 years in Opposition so congrats to KR and commiserations to John Howard.....

Let's all hope we as a country don't live to regret this, I can't think of anyone who wants to see the traditional ALP economic disasters, sky-rocketing interest rate rises, slipshod policies and worst of all, union dominated factions all spouting their own agendas to return to haunt us, not after all the work that was put into bringing this country back to its feet...............

In my own opinion, what hurt the coalition was a combination of getting a majority in both houses after the last federal election, which made them too cocky, this then displayed in the changes to IR legislation, which was too much, too fast and it turned around and bit the Lib's on the arse.... Likewise, the biggest millstone around the Coalition neck was Peter Costello, no-one would vote for this guy, without a doubt he is Australia's biggest loser..........

Let's hope that we don't all end up being losers and having to reinvent the wheel four years from now...

Thank God Rudd won!
Maxine McKew beat out Johnny in my electorate too! Hahahaha.

I've got nothing against the Libs, but we needed a new change.
