she's hardly ghetto. she's dabbled in hip-hop and rap in the past and has even worked with some very high profile rappers and hip hop artists.


The chick has nasal chords. She has the most annoying voice I've ever heard


I don't think she's selling out...her first album had a lot of hiphop influences already and her second one sold really well( at least over here in Europe) so she actually had no other reason to change apart from the fact that she wanted to.


Her new sound is fun and it will be perfect for the summer.


How can people say she is selling out? Her first album had an underlaying R&B sound and look, watch at the videos. Sure she has changed, but so has every other singer who is still around today.


Honestly. People will just say anything on here. Nelly's pre-career she was in the urban scene, and collaborations with many Hip-Hoppers. For example, Swollen Members.


the new stuff is a clear progression, in my opinion, from the tracks she did when she was in "Nelstar.


I don't care if she was R&B on her first album or not, she still sucks IMO.


Nelly Furtado is one of the most interesting pop stars to emerge in recent years. I hope she sticks around for a while and I look forward to her music.


Her new stuff is just sh*t. Not a patch on her previous works. "Promiscuous Girl" and "Maneater" are weak, uninspired, run-off-the-mill hip-hop with dated beats from Timbaland, and even worse lyrics.


Nelly is capable of so much better.


he only song of hers I really ever liked was Try.
Maneater is good in a so-bad-it's-good kind of way.


Her latest batch of songs, especially Maneater, I Am and No Igual Whatever, are fun, catchy and awesome! In my opinion, they are a hell of a lot better and interesting than I'm Like A Bird ever was.
Fake-ghetto is clearly Nelly's TRUE calling, just take her Get Ur Freak On remix for instance! It's great/hilarious! She is definitely no comparision to Jewel.

I agree, this new material, okay its nothing new and smells a bit like Gwen Stefani, but its great, and a huge improvement of Forca or whatever it was. This is what the first album hinted at. Heart it big time.

We're not stuck in the past. We just obviously have a better understanding when it comes to differentiating between music that is good and music that is bad. So you please grow up and dont blow a gasket. Its only Nelly Furtado , geez.
