Nelly's Live Version - Sort of a Paradox?

To all those who've seen her life... on the "Get Loose Tour":

Hmm...I've been having a lot of contradictory thoughts since the Munich gig I attented and I found some (a bit naughty) articles to support my opinion.

Firstly, I only really loved Nelly starting with Loose and I've been really convinced by her new image till now... but after seeing her in <<real>> life, on stage, I simply came to the conclusion that the whole thing doesn't really suit her... I love every single Nelly-dimension, even the glamour girl, but the show I've seen left a kinda bittersweet taste in my mouth...

Reasons:
1. I only now realized her "metamorphosis" into a real, professional showgirl is complete.
2. Even though I didn't go together with older fans through the first 2 phases (Whoa, Nelly and Folkore), I sort of miss them :|

What she's showing us truly is a dazzling wrapping, and surely much more attractive and money-making, but I think that Nelly herself looks a tiny bit insecure in this showgirl-suit.

and here are some excerpts from German/Austrian articles [translated as best as I could ]

>>>
Everything at a time is a bit too much
Nelly Furtado loves the extremes. She's wearing black to contrast the white stage, puffy pants and bling on her wrists. The appearance of a glamour diva is perfectly trimmed, the music being a postmodern mix of Beats, Drum'n'Bass, HipHop, 80's reminiscences, Folklore, Portuguese Fado and classic Radiopop. This is so colorful. At first sight, everything seems to fit together perfectly: World Music without a mystical cloud, Clubmusic without overcoolness, Rap without heavy, golden necklaces, Sexyness without too much naked skin; Nelly Furtado wants to go in between all of this, but can't find the right track.
However, the persistant feeling is that the artist wants too much at a time. This is a difficult desire, which she sings herself in Try: "Wanting more from me / And all I can do is try."
(Stuttgarter Nachrichten)
>>>

The star seems a bit lost... Her entertainment skills seem rather trained than born with... The show is pretty much mixed up and the provocative image she is trying to promote is as unflattering as the white jeans she wears at the end. We would have yelled towards her new live-image: back to the flowerpop and to the friendly folklore, but the arena was much too loud...
(kurier.at)

The articles seem a bit harsh, but don't you think they have a small seed of truth inside?

Don't get me wrong, I support Nelly in whatever she does, but the concert experience opened my eyes a little bit. I had, however, an unforgettable and wonderful evening in Munich - yet a bit more feelings and less visual effects would have made the concert even nicer.

what do you think?

Oh, I haven't been to a concert but I think this article is pretty right.

Thanks for your opinion and posting the articles.

Re: Nelly's Live Version - Sort of a Paradox?

hey guys! thx for sharing your opinions with me
I know that the real Nelly is the one we see on her youtube blog, but somehow I can't really find her showgirl-image credible...
but, as said, the concert in Munich was second to none even if there was a bit too much at a time

Re: Nelly's Live Version - Sort of a Paradox?

Hey, I think all your opinions are valid and it's something (at least) a few of us on here talk about from time to time. I haven't seen her live (yet) so I can't really give my true opinion of the show, but from what I've been reading of the reviews I'm definitely torn. But without having seen her show, I can say that I totally agree with your observations. It does look like, that she's trying to hard to please everyone with the new look, the image, the sound.

The best quote of that was early on (I don't remember which magazine), but she said she sees it "as a job." Mainly because she recognizes that Nevis comes first and this is her way to do what she loves by supporting her, but still the words "sees it as job" just sort of enforces the idea that she's just doing what's asked of her or told of her and not really doing what she wants. But I could be way off.

Having met Nelly once before (briefly) and seeing how she interacted with her fans, I think that she IS the person that she portrays on those webisodes (charismatic, sweet, goofy) and not necessarily this glam-ed up pop star she is trying to project. It does come off forced because I think she's pushing too hard. Nelly's naturally beautiful and sexy, she needs to stop all the posing for the camera and just be herself.
