A lot of artists surprise us in their launch but the challenge it's to surprise everyone for the second time. That's Nelly's story, a girl that after 2 years of her first cd launch goes back to music with this second album, Folklore which gives us a try of the world sounds.


Tu: How you inspire to write a song?
Nelly Furtado: I inspire with anything, from a picture, a paint, a person, a place, a play, anything that's real, soemtimes even from my memories. In few words from everything I've lived.

Tu: How important for you it's art and culture?
NF: I think it's really important to have a contact with art because any kind of expression is interesting. In my case I think that art is near my heart. Actually I'm going today to a inauguration of my brother's exposition cause he's a paintor.
Also it's part of the individuality because, at the end of the day, is a way of expressing personally how you live.

Tu: What you were looking for when you wrote this album?
NF: To show in a real way a fragment of what there is in the world, but specially to show it the way it is, with out a lot of technology, but at the same time keeping myself in contact with my origins.

Tu: what influence in your music does it has the fact you grew between different cultures?
NF: To grow up in between a mix of cultures it's the part of my life I like the most, and even more when I can add all that to my music. In fact, I think my new album is like a mini-library of rythms where you listen to music of different parts of the world.

Folklore?
"The word folklore usually sounds like something old but for me it's something magical and mystical. It's basically people's stories. Every person from any part of the world have their own folklore and this one can be dark or light. It doesnt have to be with the past necesarily, the historic part it's not the point. Celebrities gossip? That's modern folklore. Ozzy Osbourne's story of bitting a vampire's head it's also folklore", Nelly Furtado.

Tu: How is the relation with your portuguese family?
NF: Excellent, everytime I can visit them I go, I love to be with my grandma in Portugal and talk to her, she always tells me very interesting things of her stories and her traditions just the way she lived them. I learn more things when I spend 2 hours with her than when I'm 2 hours in the internet.

Tu: How many and what languages you speak?
NF: I speak portuguese, although I need to improve it a lot, I studied portuguese when I was a kid, but I don't practice it often and I'd love to improve it. I also speak a little bit of spanish.

Tu: When you were in secondary school you were a lot into the social projects, are you planning to keep doing something about it?
NF: Yeah I'd love to, but when you think of making a charity it must be something that your heart tells you to do it and satisfies you. I started to get involved with this that have to be with the environment and I loved it cause it was a very practical job. It isn't something that you have to go 2 months to sail in a boat, it's something simple. It's about dividing my house rubbish, save some light, things we all can do.

Tu: Are you planning to visit Mexico?
NF: Definetely yes, Mexico is a country I love, beside that, last time I went I had an amazing time, the concert was great and the people is great. So I can't wait to be with my mexican fans because no doubt there are one of the best worldwide.

Tu: What you think about mexican culture?
NF: It is amazing, with a lot of colours,so for that everything seems to be like a great celebration. When I visited the country I was during independence day and I loved the way they celebrated because ppl show a deep proud of being mexican.

Tu: What you think about racists atittudes?
NF: That's one of the reasons I added music of different cultures in my record, so ppl from different parts of the world listen to it. I love everything there is in the world and I think that if we were all more open-minded and tolerant, the planet would be a better place for all. I think being racist it's like being ignorant, it doesnt allow you to know ppl or ways of thinking different than yours.


Nelly Furtado it's a cool girl who doesnt leave her origins who make her be this way: "I'm a lot of cultures, that's my esence, who makes me feel special and good with myself"
