OK. I was wondering if any other fan was going through a Nelly fan ID crisis- of sorts. On my way to the T.O. show, I relected on Nel. and her music and I realised FULLY that she had changed along with her music. I mean I knew this before upon the release of Folklore and her newfound motherhood. But it came fully on me. Nelly's music is now considered ADULT contemporary. Meaning for Canadians she's more Much More Music than Much Music. For the older folks. She has said that she thinks' Whoa' is animated but that's what I like about it. I like her quirkiness, her craziness. Folklore has a bit of that but not much. And also, the urban flavour she had on Whoa is nearly gone. That whole, hip hop, reggae vibe she had going. And I wonder if she has alienated her urban fans. Well, I'm black but I listen to everything so it doesn't bother me. But she really made me like hip-hop, the underground hip hop like Swollen Members, K-OS etc. Those 2 were her opening acts but Now her opening act is Shaye? There is alot of her that has remained the same -she's still sweet, down to earth and fun. Although the energy has lessened. The show was energetic, don't get me wrong but not as the last tour. Yeah, I know she has a child. Which ...wow, when you look at it she has grown right in from of our eyes. It's scary. She looked kinda 'kiddie-ish' and cute on the 1st tour and all of a sudden she's a mum. To tell you the truth, I liked the 1st tour better, I had a hard time fully connecting last nite. There were also some fans that were like stoic. They didn't have any vibes last nite except to the heavily rotated songs. Anyhows, no 1 think that I'm bashing her. I like the songs off Folklore but not as much as 'Whoa'. It's just not the same but I still love her music.

I think your Nelly's music analysis is quite correct and I agree with you.
But I have to say that the reason why I love her music so much now is beacause of Folklore so we're at the opposite
I understand what you mean but that's for the too "kiddish" side that I never felt Whoa as much as I now feel the track off Folklore.
In the new album her melodies are solid , the lyrics are stronger if it's possible, the instruments have more importance, collaborations with Kronos Quartet,Veloso and other had an influence on the final results and you can feel the quality on every track..maybe it's all a matter of tastes but I think that Nelly from now on can only do better...
She has grown
we can follow her

I couldn't have said it better than you, FurtadoItaly

I think her change was positive. And at the whole Folklore is (for me) more emotional and hat's what I love.
But it isn't so that I don't like the older songs. ILAB e.g. is also one of my favourite songs of Nelly.

For me, I still like both albums, but I'm loving the tracks on Folklore heaps more, I kinda feel like the change came at a good time, it worked in with my life really well, which was weird to see, but it just kinda clicked, especially in the last 4 or 5 months!

To me change is inevitable and it is what keeps in interesting, I embrace the changes that have happened in Nelly's music/sound, I haven't had the opportunity to see her in concert for this current tour so I can't speak from that point of view...

I can see what your saying and yeah you are right that she has changed styles etc, but to me when I hear each track, still, even after hearing each track hundreds of times, I still seem to hear something new in each one, to me that is special, when music can do that to me I'm happy to have the change!

To me change is a good thing, but that's just for me, doesn't suit everyone as well as it has me!

Luna_angelie, yeah I hear what ur saying, but like some of the other replies, I feel more akin to Folklore than I did to Whoa Nelly...

Like I loved WN end of story, I bought it almost straight away, but I felt more of a connexion to FL than WN, the whole hip-hop thing didn't fully grab me....

But music is all about tastes & everyone has the right to like/dislike what they wish...

Glad ur still a fan though................

Has anyone else noticed that she seems to have, like you said, recorded Folklore's songs as a sort of Adult Contemporary yet she still wants to jump around the like Whoa Nelly songs? I get the feeling she went through a stage and her next instalment will be completely different again. cause she said she wasn't sure about releasing another then all of a sudden she wanted to, but all of her songs were yeah sorta slower and not as upbeat, and more contemporary. However, from watching each of her live promotional performances she seemed to start off soooo slow...even powerless was just so incredibly boring to watch her sing. But she seemed to get into it then and now everyone says she's jumpin around on tour so I think she almost wishes she was touring whoa nelly sometimes. Anyway that's my blabber.

Yeah that is a good point Pete.
I honestly think that every album will be different, I like it that way, keeps it interesting!
If every album was the same as Whoa Nelly, there would be no variety, and while I love Whoa Nelly and I play it heaps, it's cool to have Folklore there as well and to be able to mix the songs together to have some variety.

I think the next album will be different again and will take another turn, but that is cool with me, I love being able to see where Nelly wants to take her music and how she wants it to sound as each album is completed, it is like she is communicating with us through the way she makes her songs.

Variety is the spice of life!
