Heaven love, she may not work as hard on her music as she used, and that way might be selling out, or for following producers wishes (although I'm not even convinced of that), but I think she'd be one of the last people to use it "just to shock" or to be cocky...please, that's just absurd. Besides, if the lines are as you say, she basically says "it's a damn good organisation". To me it doesn't make sense either in the context, and to be honest, I think it'd be even possible she just said it to get more people involved in the organisation, like that jewelry ad she did, she not only gave all the money to charity, but even advertised that organisation on it. So maybe she thought, hell, that's not my album, why not have fun with a light-hearted song and maybe make people look into Amnesty International? I think it would be a very odd idea, but for Nelly very possible imo.

And about the "fight", I think they are referring to each other on purpose, but that it's a very playful fight, made as half a joke, which helps both their records and is fun, and if they met they'd laugh about it...

Yeah, I mean... I hope that she didn't mean it the way it sounds within the song, because I like Nelly. It just doesn't seem like she said the name to get people involved with it, because she says that Amnesty International has everything on lock...like they don't need anyone's help-not Nelly's and not other people's-help... and that isn't true they need all the financial support they can get. Plus (this isn't really her fault), but if you look up the lyrics for her song online, almost every webpage with the lyrics on it quotes that line as saying "amnesty international got bankrupt"... which is not good PR for the organization at all.

I just think that she either made a really, really big mess of a well-intentioned name drop or that she knew exactly what she was doing and was trying to cause a stir... I just wish she would go on record saying which one she meant to do.

Re: Nelly, Amnesty International, and... Fergie???

^^ lol, how youre mocking the lyrics! You should at least know that's what a few people here tried to figure out without any booklet (and with a LQ audio), and then people lazy to listen to the song and make up the lyrics theirselves started taking them as official ones, and now it's on the net as GITM lyrics. Lol, that's to funny! I didn't come up with that particular line, I had something even worse guessed for it's place, and this version "fixed" that problem. So the basis of these lyrics is just trying to guess words from very poor quality audio.

But hey you believe what you believe. Why do you think she doesn't just assure that people the Amnesty International actually does their job, instead of loosing most of the money in the bureacracy of these very organisations, which often happens. And a good idea: did you check the Amnesty page to see if there was some important news from these places she mentions, so that maybe she'd be drawing attention to them? Maybe if you're really bothered, you should try and see if she has some particular abuse of human rights in mind? It's worth checking...

I understand your concern about the Amnesty International thing, it's totally valid. But I think that with her actions, jus as Icescape has stated, Nelly has proved that she cares about important stuff, so I honestly don't think that Amnesty International is referenced there in a bad way. Is it possible that there's a band or production team called AI too and she's referencing that instead? That sounds stupid, but who knows...

And, if there's a song whose lyrics you should not be paying that much attention to it's Give It To Me. It's an indulgent song they did to have fun and to suit Timbaland's album, and I think that however good or bad (your choice) a producer he is, he's not the most talented lyricist out there. To make a song like GITM is highly uncharacteristic of Nelly, but to try a new thing is not. So I cut her some slack there.

Plus, in interviews she's been asked precisely that, why would she write a derogatory song like that, and she looks all mortified and says basically: "Well, it's a fun song, it's all in good fun, that's why the chorus says we're not here to hurt anybody".

Personally I don't think there's a feud between Timbaland and Scott Storch, so the "piano man" thing seems to me to be in good fun. About the Justin Timberlake/Prince thing, I guess he is being mean in his verse of the song. But the Nelly/Fergie thing seems far-fetched to me.

Re: Nelly, Amnesty International, and... Fergie???

yes nelly could be supporting the amnesty international in both versions of the lyrics that are out there. The Correct version obviously or cud b drawing attention to those places, tho she cud b a bit moor clearer when she says it....but then her fans will prob b curious then want to help nelly support that cause ect ect ect....

Then the other version where ppl think that she sae "amnesty international got bankrupt im ontop on lock.." could b seen in a gud way as well. Lyk if amnesty international is in trouble then she's got their back n will fund them???? and she prob will coz she acts out what she says.... can u'z c where im cummin frm...lyk i dnt think nelly would diss or degrade such an important organisation.

now bwt the fergie thing.....

okay some people have have said that promiscuous is targeted at fergie...HOW?????
but then god this thing is jst too confusing ae...i find tha verbal jousting between themm quite funni coz ferige iz jst a try hard....

Pfffft, Nelly would win hands down in a fight against Muppet Features Fergie. All she'd have to do it headlock Fergie with those juicy calves of hers and break her neck. Pretty much like a nutcracker.

Yep, Fergie is certainly a muppet. But Janice the muppet is still far more attractive than Fergie herself. *shudders*

Re: Nelly, Amnesty International, and... Fergie???

I've been listening to this song for quite some time now, and my interpretation is that she is talking about 'Misty International', not Amnesty.

Misty Intl. is a cosmetics brand specializing in bronzing/glow powders for a 'tanned' look. To me, it makes more sense that Nelly is talking about her skin tone, that it's 'real', as she says she is in the preceding lines, and that she doesn't have to spend a fortune on artificial coloring, unlike other celebrities.

Of course Nelly's comment would be tongue-in-cheek, in line with the general self-mocking tone of the rest of the song.

Interesting in hearing your views about this.

Good find!

That definately would make the most sense.

She could be saying "And Misty Interational" instead of "Amnesty International".

Cause before that she says "I'm a supermodel and mummy".
