I saw Nelly perform on Canadian TV during the New Year celebrations in Toronto (2000). I heard I'm Like a Bird before, but then she played Turn off the lights and a few days later I rushed out to buy the CD.

i remember it quite clearly...

it was when 'I'm Like A Bird' was premiered on MTV Australia. i saw it and i thought "she's hot & cute & sexy all at the same time!..is that possible?"...so i jumped online to look her up and i just happened to read her bio on the official site and it was saying how some of her influences have been thru Hip Hop and that caught my attention. so i just had to hear her. it wasn't anything that i expected at all. but, i LOVED it!.

the rest is history!...

I first saw Nelly on channel V (a show we have here in oz, like MTV cept better ) and she'd just released her video for ILAB.. Of course instantly i realised this girl was absolutely beautiful -her smile, her eyes, everything. Moreso her voice and music were refreshingly different.

My eyes are kinda broken (thats just my way of saying they dont work properly ) sometimes i have trouble seeing colours and things. After seeing her video for the first time I couldnt figure out what colour her eyes are.. so i kept watching, waiting for the next time they showed it so i could finally figure it out... and let me tell you.. the part where she looks at the bug didnt help lol.. even today im not sure, i just call them 'blue-grey'

The first song i really liked was SOTR, i saw it on her performance at muchmusic, then i was hooked.. i saw shes not one of those 'one-hit wonders' and so i bought her album and realised how much she had to offer. And i'm still hooked

when TOTL was released i kept seeing it and hearing it, but always forgot the name, had to keep asking my sister "yeah.. whats that song turning off the light??"..

so i downloaded it. then her album came out, i got that
fell in love with it, listened to it non-stop... and still do to this day. my room and computer is full of nell.

i love her for who she is.
she is beatiful no matter what, my friends dont understand me

Australian MTV gets the best from MTV, MTV Asia and MTV UK. How could you go wrong?..

Well since this was boosted...and I tried to make this abbreviated, but watch me ramble...

First heard of Nelly:
Around when Whoa, Nelly! was released. I only knew her name, and occasional snippets of ILAB. At first, knowing nothing about her, I just thought she was another pop girl amongst the flock. Finally heard all of ILAB while on break from college, via a mixed CD my sister made for my mum. I liked it, but even back then I rarely listened to the radio and longgg ago stopped watching MTV. So I wasn't exposed to her much.

(Also: Some Tori Amos fan had a website with audio files recorded while meeting certain musicians like Tori... I found one of Nelly there as well, but again I knew little of her)

Then close to over a year ago:
Heard some collaborations (Get Your Freak On, Breathe, Thin Line, etc) , saw she was much more than just a typical pop artist, and got hooked. Soon after I saw the Breathe and ILAB videos, it was my first time actually SEEING her. Hubba hubba!
Then I read more about her, and gave ILAB another listen... then Hey Man and TOTL drove me to buy the album. She came along when alot of my musical tastes were already branching out, so she fit in perfectly. Her music & character had alot of drawing power, so with everything combined she fast became a favourite musician of mine. The end!
