Seriously, we have Acts and Regulations in place to stop this sort of discrimination in the workplace and yet it's rife in our school system.

The sad thing is I can already see conservatives moving protesting any moce to allow same-sex couples attend the dance.

One of Brisbane's most prestigious all-boys school is willing to debate a ban on gay students taking same-sex partners to the senior formal. The Anglican Church Grammar School was in defence mode after it emerged several gay year 12 students wanted to take their partners to the end-of year dance on June 19.

The school's policy says the young men may only attend the ball with a female partner.

Parents and friends of Lesbians and Gays national spokeswoman Shelly Argent said it was about time schools moved into the modern era. "Schools need to put an end to this discrimination," Ms Argent said.

The school's headmater Jonathon Hensman said the policy had never been challenged before. However, he said he was open to discussing the matter with students and encouraged those concerned to raise the issue in writing so he could refer it to the school council for debate
