Jak wiecie Nelly Furtado Poland powstało, żeby zgromadzić fanów, którzy jadą na koncert i przeprowadzić akcje na "Forca" i "Manos Al Aire". Jest już po koncercie, a w trakcie tych 3 miesięcy pracy na projektem z "projektu na koncert" zostaliśmy "fan clubem"!
Tak! Management Nelly wysłał na nasz adres nellyfurtadpoland@gmail.com niedawno informację, a właściwie powitanie nowego fan clubu! Jesteśmy już na liście. Więc czy tego chcieliśmy czy nie, jesteśmy Oficjalnym Polskim Fan Clubem Nelly Furtado!

Sprawa druga - Kilka osób pytało nas czy mamy liste klubowiczów. Otóż mamy liste osób (imie, nazwisko / nick, adres e-mail) którę były na koncercie, ponieważ początkowo szukaliśmy kontaktu z tymi osobami. Jednak teraz robimy liste fan clubowiczów. I oczywiście nie musicie robić nic - tylko podajcie nam maila i jakieś imię/nick. To akurat nie był nasz pomysł tak do końca z tą listą, ale Management Nelly chce mieć wszystkich fanów na swojej liście mailowej - żeby wysyłać wam newslettery itp.

Sprawa trzecia - Jak wiecie od jakiegoś czasu trwa "Fan Club Challenge". Dostaliśmy zielone światło to udziału w #3 Challengu! Nelly Furtado first sang “like a bird” into our hearts back in 2000 with Whoa, Nelly! and teamed up with Timbaland to bring hit after hit single with her album Loose. Now Nelly is bringing her “Plan” to Ravinia.
Gozamos: Hi, Nelly. What are you up to now?
Nelly Furtado: I am just having a little time off. This is my summer vacation.
Gozamos: I have always wanted to ask you how many languages you speak.
NF: English, Spanish and Portuguese as well and that’s about it. Some people think I speak Hindi but I actually only know a couple of songs of Hindi. I don’t actually speak it.
Gozamos: Well, that is pretty impressive.
NF: I guess it is from growing up in a multicultural house. My parents are from Portugal so…
Gozamos: It’s a very good influence for your music.
NF: Yeah, for sure. It has been a huge stamp on my sound. I have always been interested in fusion. I like different styles of music, such as pop songs. I have tried to fuse those things when possible.
Gozamos: The new album is going to be called Lifestyle.
NF: That is the one I am working on that is in English. The last one I put out was Mi Plan. It is all in Spanish.
Gozamos: I love that CD.
NF: Oh, thanks.
Gozamos: How was it making Mi Plan? You were able to pick who you wanted to work with, correct?
NF: I grew up listening to a lot of Latin pop music. I started recording in Spanish shortly after I put out my first English full length. I did a track with a Colombian Artist named Juanes. It basically snowballed from there. I did features on Spanish tracks. I included two Spanish language tracks on my third album Loose. I wanted my Spanish album to be eclectic as usual. I wanted to feature some really great talent. In the Latin world there are just so many superstars and amazing voices. I was lucky enough to get a lot of great people on the album. I also threw in Josh Grobin for good measure.
Gozamos: That’s creative.
NF: He was really excited to be part of a Spanish track. This was all a learning experience. I think that singers who sing in Spanish approach their vocal very powerfully and passionately. There can be a lot of ebb and flow. It was exciting to be in the room with those men and women.
Gozamos: I can imagine.
NF: The main thing was that I was writing with Alex Cuba. He is a really talented indie artist who is originally from Cuba but resides in Canada. He has his own sound. It is really hard to describe so you have to check his music out. Him and I had a really great writing connection. I think all my albums start off with some type of nugget. We just met and clicked, two songwriters working together. All my albums are like that, happening from some moment.
Gozamos: I was not familiar with Alex until I heard your album. I do love Julieta Venegas who you sang with on Mi Plan.
NF: You like her? She’s my favorite Latin artist. She has a really unique sound.
Gozamos: She does. I just went to her concert not too long ago.
NF: You did? How was it?
Gozamos: It was a smaller venue but packed. She was very pregnant this last time that I saw her.
NF: She is probably like six months now, right? She has a little baby bump, how cute.
Gozamos: Yes and somehow dancing the whole time.
NF: Yeah, she just loves music.
Gozamos: I watched the video on the duet with Julieta called “Bajo Otra Luz.” You dress like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. Is this a homage for your gay fans?
NF: (bursts out laughing) You got it! That’s funny that you mention that. I have been getting back into Rufus Wainwright recently. I love him and I have been a fan since he came out. We were label mates at Dreamworks. I was listening to my old Rufus albums and realizing he is such a treasure. He is going to be around forever. He is one of those classic voices. But yeah Judy, Dorothy, sure!!!
Gozamos: You basically get to work a runway with different looks.
NF: I wanted a video that would remind people of when they are little and not caring so much, dressing up and putting on fashion shows for fun. That was the spirit behind making “Bajo Otra Luz.” Making the song was very fun with the girls, Julieta, Mala and me. It wasn’t so much about the song but us having fun in the studio. Julieta wrote that song for me. I was taking on different roles and furthering the metaphor in the video.
Gozamos: What is the song about for all of the English speakers out there?
NF: The song is about when you are in a relationship and you are under a light. You feel like something is glowing on you and there is something different about the world. You can’t put your finger on it. I though dressing up in costumes would be a good metaphor for that and you can be anybody sometimes. You can try on different hats.
Gozamos: I spoke with Rufus Wainwright recently and he said he would like to perform with Bjork one day. Who would you like to perform with but haven’t?
NF: Ohh, the two voices together, wow. I want to hear him on a hip hop track. I want to hear his voice with some crazy heavy beats. I would work with Rufus. I still want to work with Eminem. Madonna would be fun too.
Gozamos: Oh, yeah, who wouldn’t? I liked Esthero and you together.
NF: Her voice is insane. I did a collaboration with her called “I Feel You.” We did that track in 2000, I think. I purposely turned her voice up as loud as possible on the mix board because I just wanted to hear it. I thought if I have her on a song, I want it loud.
Gozamos: Congrats on the Canadian Walk of Fame.
NF: Thank you so much. That is kind of nuts. That definitely put things in perspective for me. It made me feel quite ancient (both laugh). It was cool. They do that for people that have been in the industry for at least ten years. I was there last year inducting Robert Munsch, a really famous children’s author, which was really fun.
Gozamos: You are coming to Rivinia for the first time. It is a pavilion and lawn venue where people bring wine and picnic baskets and sit outside.
NF: So everybody brings their own wine? There will be a good ol’ moshpit in the front right?
Gozamos: Well, I will start one! We have to keep it lively for you.
NF: That sounds so fun. Hopefully there will be good weather.
Gozamos: Will you be playing the new stuff or is it still in the works?
NF: I am thinking about it. A couple of my songs got leaked. I don’t know if they are going to be on my album anymore. We might just throw them in the show for fun. I think fans want it at this point. Especially when you are in between albums, they can handle one or two new things.
Gozamos: I heard you even have a reggae song.
NF: I do have a reggae track. What I might actually do is put out an album between this one and Lifestyle. Honestly, I have so much material and so many songs that I have not released. I am so picky about what I put out. I want to catch the fans up with b-sides and things I never released.
Gozamos: That sounds good.
NF: What happened was that I went on my Latin tour and got so invigorated. I decided to promote my Spanish album for a while longer. I put a lot of work into that album. My show is a mix. It is Spanish, English and all the hits.
Gozamos: I went to your concert at The Vic years ago for your Folklore album. You met me after the show and many artists don’t meet fans after the show.
NF: Of course, I love my fans. They are very supportive and into the music. They are just great.
Gozamos: We will be there to support you at Ravinia,
NF: It is my first show in the United States in about four years, so we are excited!

Powiedziała, że na albumie jej nie będzie ale możliwe że wyda ją jako b-side. Potem pomyślała przez chwilę i powiedziała, że fajnie by było wydać akustyczną płytę i że właśnie o tym ostatnio myśli. Zapytała się nas czy to dobry pomysł oczywiście nie mogliśmy odpowiedzieć jej nic innego jak "Tak" :D

On August 15, 2010, PhemPhat Entertainment Group will celebrate the 15th anniversary of Honey Jam, Canada's longest running all-female showcase for musicians and artists from all genres, backgrounds and different parts of the country. The show takes place at 8:00 p.m. inside the Mod Club (722 College Street, Toronto) – see www.honeyjam.com.

To mark the show's milestone, in honour of their 15th anniversary and as a tribute to their most well known alumni Nelly Furtado, Honey Jam artists have recorded I'm Like a Bird. The song is available for purchase on itunes. Proceeds will be split between YWCA Toronto programs for Women and girls and funding for Honey Jam initiatives.

Why Nelly's song? In 1997, Nelly Furtado performed at Honey Jam where she met her current manager Chris Smith. Nelly is now a global star who has sold millions of albums worldwide and will be inaugurated into Canada's Walk of Fame this fall. She has also given back to Honey Jam by becoming a sponsor through her company Nelstar Entertainment.

The song will be performed as the finale at the showcase on Sunday.

Producer Michael Sonier says: "The objective was to do I'm Like A Bird, but with a Honey Jam twist. I wanted to go for a more soulful and R&B vibe which led to co-producer Jon Adediji incorporating some warm instruments into the arrangement. Because Honey Jam is all about a mix of genres, founder Ebonnie Rowe suggested we add steel pan and placed us in contact with an incredible player named Joy Lapps who is also a Honey Jam Alumni. We had to turn this project around in just a week's time which would not have been possible without such talented artists. You hear the real deal, the real voices of these ladies. There was no auto tune or modification, just pure talent."

Miami, Los Angeles, and Ravinia. Those are the only U.S. destinations that currently appear on Grammy winner Nelly Furtado’s tour schedule, following the wildly successful South American tour for her latest album, Mi Plan. “I heard about [Ravinia] through a colleague who said it was a really amazing festival to play,” Nelly says. “Some of the favorite moments in my career have been playing eclectic festival events.”

Eclectic is a word that Nelly is very comfortable with. Her first album, Whoa, Nelly! varied greatly in style from track to track as she blended all of her musical influences—from folk, to funk, to rock, to hip-hop—into something entirely her own. This determined vision earned the album a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album; one of the more traditional pop songs from the album, “I’m Like a Bird,” played regularly on the radio and won her the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, beating out Janet Jackson and Faith Hill’s offerings, and launching Nelly to stardom.

It’s a fairly safe bet that any other artist, finding herself in Nelly’s position, would figure she had a winning formula, recycle her bag of tricks, and ride the wave of commercial success. But not Nelly! She surprised everyone by turning away from her genre-mashing style and releasing a hugely rock-influenced album, Folklore, which relied heavily on acoustic instrumentation and truly showcased her vocal abilities. And, although it’s considered less commercially successful than her first release, Folklore still sold more than 3 million copies worldwide, and, possibly more importantly, helped define Nelly as an artist—both to her fans and to herself. “There have been plenty of moments where I really don’t understand what’s going on in my life until I write a song about it. I think it’s really a means of communication for me, because it’s so organic that it’s impossible for me to plan it,” she says. “I just kind of follow what my interests are at the time. It’s just like life. Life is full of surprises, so I guess that’s why my music is, too.”

She’s not kidding: Nelly’s third album, Loose, was yet another musical about-face, for which she teamed up with hip-hop impresario Timbaland. Together, they crafted a new sound for Nelly, which she calls “punk-hop”—an addictive, completely individual combination of her ethereal vocals and grinding synth sounds with driving dance beats. The experiment was an undeniable success: Loose went double platinum in the U.S., triple platinum in the U.K., brought Nelly more Grammy nominations, and made her the top artist in global record sales in 2007.

So there she was again, at the top of music charts worldwide and planning her next move. She had released three albums in three different styles, experienced the thrill of rocketing to fame with the first, the disappointment of underperformance on the second, and the surefire formula for record sales on the third. But she wasn’t about to become predictable now.

“I don’t want people to like me just because I’m saturated in the market. I always want people to like my music because it’s good or because it catches their ear,” Nelly says. “Sometimes, when you ride the wave of your own momentum, people start buying records just because of your name, rather than the music. I think it’s important to keep challenging yourself.” So, in a move she describes as “obvious,” and others might describe as “unusual,” she released her next album, Mi Plan, entirely in Spanish.

Although she was raised in Canada, Nelly’s parents were from Portugal, and she’s spoken Spanish since she was 14 (as a nod to her Latin roots, she dipped into Spanish for a song or two on her previous albums). But surely a North American record company executive’s greatest nightmare has to be a top-selling artist announcing her plan to release an entire album in a foreign language—and, in a further head-scratching move, to pare back the very dance-club overtones that spearheaded the success of Loose. But that is just what she did.

Mi Plan is obviously grounded in Nelly’s love of Latin music: Synthesizers and thick drum samples take a backseat to acoustic instrumentation and earnest delivery of heartfelt vocal melodies; the inside of the album jacket—which seems like nothing so much as a family photo album filled with people caught in moments of energy and affection—contains snapshots of the cavalcade of Latin music stars who jumped at the chance to collaborate with her. “Mi Plan was purposely collaboration-heavy, just because there are so many amazing artists in the Latin world that I wanted to work with. Also, I wanted it to sound like a community effort. I wanted it to have all those layers of experience,” says Nelly. It certainly did: Mi Plan opened at No. 1 on the Billboard Latin Music Chart, confounding all doubters, and Nelly, not surprised at all, simply pushed back work on her next English-language album to extend the South American tour.

Even though Nelly has never made conventional choices, she has a history of making the right ones. And it’s a sure bet that we on the North Shore (who are among the privileged few in North America to experience the Mi Plan Tour,) won’t need a translator to enjoy the Ravinia show. “I play all my singles. You have to give people the whole body of work. It’s actually easier now, four albums deep, to have a nice, big, long show,” Nelly says. “I was at a show last night and there was a band that only has one album, and I was like, ‘Why is the show so short?’ I remember those days, where you could barely fill up an hour because you only had one album to draw from.” But not Nelly. Not now. A decade after beginning her career, the organic ebb and flow of Nelly’s music still reflects her interests and her desire to speak to people in the one, universal language that she speaks most fluently: music.
