ELectronics Entertainment Expo 2006 (E3)

I'm not sure how many people follow this expo? But I know I do, its been really fascinating this year, and in my opinion i think Nintendos "Wii" has stolen the show so far. At first I wasn't too impressed with the idea of some TV remote looking thing as the controller to a games console, but now i have see it in action being used with all sorts of different game genres, i really am starting to believe that Nintendo are onto something with this.. i would love to try it out and feel how natural it is to use. I do prefer "Wii" over "Revolution" also, even though it sounds silly.

As for Sony.. i haven't been that impressed with their offerings of PS3.. it just doesn't seem to have that edge like Playstation usually does, its all in the vibes i tell you! And not many PS3 vibes are not coming out of E3 this year, i think the hype was too much, whereas Nintendo kept pretty quiet about what they we upto. However Sony have gotten rid of the "Boomerang" shaped controller they were initially going to release with the PS3 and have just stuck to the PS2 controller, but there is one difference, it has motion sensors inside it.

PS. Microsoft have yet to really launch anything worthy of news (unless you are a Halo3 fan).

other than that though, the Wii totally has my money already. I love that Wiimote.


Oh and Sony totally stole Nintendo's idea with the Dual Shake (like the Wiimote) now being on tap for PS3

I've been watching it closely.....so far....no distinct winnder for me.


The definite highlight of E3 for me is METAL GEAR SOLID 4. I'm a huge Metal Gear fantatic and every sequel they make gets better and better. The trailer is awesome, check that out if you haven't already. My favorite so far. Hideo Kojima and his team are freakin' nuts...don't they get any sleep!? :-P

I like the Wii but, graphically, it's not impressing me. Red Steel looked ugly and the new Metroid looks the same! And I'm skeptical about how they are now trying to appeal to non-gamers with the new peripheral because it may dumb down and simplify gameplay and turn-off more experience players. But all the Nintendo fans should eat it up. Wii should be a very inexpensive system so I'm definitely picking one up anyway.

I like how Microsoft is expanding their Live service and converging it with Windows Vista, and opening the conference with Cliffy B playing Gears of War was a sweet move on Microsoft's part. I was totally drooling over that game.

PS3 was kind of disappointing, from a marketing standpoint. They criticized MS for offering two SKUs but now they are doing the same. $600 dollars for the Premium PS3 is going to scare a lot of consumers away I bet!! And they didn't live up to a lot of the promises they made last year. But it seems that they are taking the greates risk financially because they are pushing newer expensive technology that may not catch on until much later in the console cycle.

But I'm still looking forward to PS3 because of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII

The only annoying thing about it is that there's still a lot of old Xbox games that wont play on it.

Any news about whether PS3 or Wii will have that facility of PS2/1 or Gamecube games?

I heard that Wii are reverting back to cartridges........... Jaja!

yeah, the 360 is getting better and better I think.

I think the PS3 will also play old PS2/1 games via emulation like the 360, it turns out because they have a division that are testing and optimising all the old games for it :-/ I guess it's another promise they broke. I know the Wii you will be able to purchase any of the old Nintendo catalogue....I don't know about Gamecube though.
