People here in California LOVE Nelly. Fergie gets a lot of radio play here (because she's from Los Angeles), but I still find that almost everyone I meet loves and respects Nelly so much. Gwen and Nelly are probably the most popular female artists here in Los Angeles at least.

well, here in germany it does look like on BITS lol, there are some people that know I'm like a bird or TOTL, and like that style and Folklore style more, but since Loose and songs like Maneater and Promiscious a lot of people know her as we know, and some people even don't know that Nelly Furtado had also albums before Loose, i hate to hear this, becasue Nelly is not just Loose

I know every word that Italo says since the Nelly F. videos start to play here and her songs on the radio too. At my school I always tried to put Nelly songs in some works and the only know ILAB or TOTL after that only TRY because the opera's soap... now some singles from Loose are a big hit here, but if you ask them another musics from her they only know ask: ILAB (when they know this one lol) Its so easy you hear on a big station here (Globo FM) songs like, TOTL , ILAB, Shit on the radio even. and I was surprised when I listened the cover of "Crazy" by Nelly F. on the radio. and most of people like the songs but really dont know who is ... (and I was surprised too when they played Somebody to love in the firsts chapters of Big Brother Brasil 2007) but not more than this...
Nelly needs promote her here... do concerts... but nothing until now! this way, things like that will always happen.

There are not that many Nelly fans here, like yeah they like Promiscuous, and Maneater, All Good Things, and The Do It Remix, but only because it is so similar to most of the music they listen to. They absolutly loved Say It Right. But really I think the reason they liked them well was because they had artists that People know and already listen to. EG. Timbaland, and Missy Elliot. One day I walked passed a shop in the mall, and I heard a wiff of Somebody To Love comming out, and I was like WTF, stopped and went back and checked it out. Like it was so unusal, you know???? But I think that the major reason is lack of promotion here in New Zealand. You know she is the worlds Highest Selling Female Artist of 2007, and not once have I seen her DVD advertised, well apart from wharehouse catalogs, and I only saw Loose advertised a total of 5 times during this whole Loose era. Perhaps if Nelly came to New Zealand and done promotional stuff and performances, then perhaps she would get more recognition here. After Im Like a Bird and Turn off the light and On The Radio, which I totaly loved but unable to do anything for lack of funds and ability to get onto internet ect. So she drifted out of New Zealand. and sadly I forgot her, but then Loose kind of got her back on the map, but nobody realised that she had had a kid, and gone and made folklore or that Forca was the Euro theme song or what ever. Now she has a kind of basic base, but to keep it, she needs to come over to New Zealand, and totaly hang with me lolz jj. But seriously.....all it takes is promotion promotion promotion.

Back in 2001, I'm Like a Bird was a huge hit here as well as Turn off The Light. Both songs were highly played on the major radio stations for months (TOTL is actually still being played once in a while). Then, on 2004, Try was choosed as the theme for a romantic couple of a sucessful soap opera and it was someking of a cult hit here. The problem is: A lot of people, and when I say this I really mean it... a lot of people doesn't know who the hell Nelly Furtado is. They know her songs, they like her songs, but they just doesn't know who sings it and most of them doesn't even know that the person who sings Say it Right is the same one singing Promiscuous or I'm Like a Bird.

For example, even if she had two huge hits from Loose, the cd itself never achieved the Top 40 here, because the name Nelly Furtado isn't well known to sell cds.

I don't know if its because the name 'Nelly Furtado' doesn't appear much on the media (gossip magazines, scandals, controversial interviews, etc). Or if its because she keeps changing her vocals and styles and because of that most of people doesn't relate her songs... I don't know. Does it happen in your country too or is it just here in Brazil?

It is common, take it easy.

Take my experience for instance,
I've always known who is Madonna.
And I've been listening to her songs like Ray of Light, Music, etc. for a long time.
I liked the songs a lot.
But I never realised that the songs was sung by Madonna.
And when I realised that I was like WOW!!
and that's when I trully started to love Madonna, not just knowing her name while listening to her songs without an idea of who is singing it.

The same thing happens on me when the album Loose was about to be released.
(By the way, I live in Taiwan, a country in the North-East Asia.)
One day I saw an interview with Nelly on MTV, it's Nelly talking about the album 'Loose' and the writing and recording of the songs, and there's a Making-of Clip of Maneater, and at the end of the show, the video of Maneater was played.
I watched the video and I really loved the song, very special and unique.
But after that, all I remembered was a hot girl dancing with people around her in a room and grooving on the roof, and what happened when Nelly was recording the song in the studio.
I've NEVER heard of Nelly Furtado before, even after I saw the show about her on TV for the 1st time, I couldn't remember her name.
And about a half year later, the album Loose was released in my country, and there's alot commercials of it and music videos can frequently be seen on TV.
One day the MTV was playing Promiscuous video and I thought ''Wow, what a great song,'' and after Promiscuous, it's Maneater.
When I was seeing the Maneater video played on TV, all the memories came back into my mind.
''Oh, that's her!! the hot chick I've seen on MTV with the strange dance-pop song which I've loved since I heard it for the 1st time.''
Ever since, I know who Nelly Furtado is, and I'm obsessed to her!!

The situation often happens when you listen to the radio, there's a song being heavily played through the stations, you hear it anytime, anywhere, but you just don't know who's singing it and what's the songs name.

Say it Right was a hit here.... but before Loose fewer people knew who she was. I had a hard time trying to get my relatives to like her but they didn't. They said only some songs from "Whoa, Nelly!" are her best ones, and Loose ones are crappy.
