MMVA Predictions: Will Sam Relive His Juno Night Of Glory?

It's time to play the music. It's time to light the lights. It's time to meet the stars at the MMVAs Sunday night.

If you drive down to Queen and John in Toronto, preparations are already underway for the 2004 MuchMusic Video Awards, which will be held at MMHQ this Sunday, June 20. Unlike other video shows, the MMVAs are more about the glitz, the performances and the behind-the-scenes hijinx. Still, we like to speculate on who we think will make their way to the many MMVA podiums. Here's a list of our best guesses for the more prominent categories:

Best Video: We're going to go with Sam Roberts on this one. Nelly Furtado's "Powerless" is nice and colourful and people seem to love the film models in Pilate's "Into Your Hideout," but that video for Sammy's "Hard Road" is pretty great.

Best Director: We'll go with Don Allan for K-OS' "Heaven Only Knows." Allan is one of the country's most well-respected directors and this video is up there with his best.

Best Pop Video: Let's say Nelly Furtado for "Powerless" on this one. It's pretty and has some nice shots of Nelly waving her arms around and singing into the camera.

MuchLOUD Best Rock Video: We'll go on a limb her and pick Nickelback's "Someday." Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, the plot line is contrived and the actors are goofy. But damn it, there needs to be more of those '80s-style melodramas these days.

MuchVIBE Best Rap Video: Since we picked K-OS' "Heaven Only Knows" For Best Director, we'll slot him in here as well.

Best Independent Video: Again, critics love that Pilate video, but we're siding with Much faves Alexisonfire for their "Counterparts And Number Them" vid.

MuchMoreMusic Award: Since they seem to be playing Shania Twain's "Forever And For Always" every time we switch M3 on, we're betting on Ms. Twain.

Best International Video ? Artist: Well, since Hilary Duff is actually going to be there, her "Come Clean" is a sure bet.

Best International Video ? Group: Beastie Boys for "Ch-check It Out." Same reason as above.

The MMVAs will air live on MuchMusic at 9 p.m. ET this Sunday, June 20. The show will be preceded by a pre-game show at 7:30 ET. Tune into ChartAttack on Monday for complete MMVA coverage.
