Re: The BITS Movie Club
Yeah, you spend all of The Prestige wondering what the big twist is, and it is kind of easy to guess the twin thing. The twist I was not expecting was the final one, when Angier tells Borden that they only do their job to watch the look in people's faces and that takes him by surprise, cause you spend all of the movie thinking that Borden is the master and Angier is the amateur magician, but maybe Angier was the true magician at heart... I love that little detail. ANd I'm watching it right now, it's showing this month in HBO.
The Illusionist was not as good. It does have some interesting formatting, it has those old-fashioned effects where one scene blacks out by slowly forming a circle, you know like 1920's Charlie Chaplin movies. I love the actor that plays the villain, he always plays villains and is good in those roles. But I hate Jessica Biel and that did take something away from my enjoyment of the film. But it's not the kind of movie I'd recommend, it didn't seem extraordinary in any sense. And Ben Affleck, yeah, he can't act. But I did enjoy Hollywoodland, I really like these movies that happen in "old Hollywood" like the Black Dahlia. I have no idea if Black Dahlia really is a good movie or not, but I loved the way it was filmed, they gave it an old movie kind of vibe.

Re: The BITS Movie Club
I havent seen Hollywoodland, but I remember people saying Affleck's acting was pretty good in that one. I'm really curious about Gone Baby Gone.
I watched Inland Empire last night. I think you would love it Alejandro It's even more crazy than Mulholland Dr.! But I feel this one might give you a feeling it makes more sense as there are things which during the film return or are made a bit more clear. Laura Dern is simply amazing. I already loved her in Blue Velvet, love her even more now.I also saw I'm Not There on Friday, which is really nice. It really makes you listen to Dylan's lyrics more as the stories told sometimes are linked to the songs, so they tell something about the characters or their situation. I loved how every character represents a different kind of Dylan or stands for a certain thought or viewpoint he had. The weird thing is, though, that it kind of gives you the feeling the man's already dead the way they give life to his career and life. But both his life and career are not over yet. So that's just a little bit strange. But oevrall it's a very enjoyable film and I think much more interestung than the usual biopics. And yes, Cate Blanchett is as amazing as everyone says she is. |

Re: The BITS Movie Club
Laura Dern... Amazing, I have to watch that one, hopefully I'll feel it is a little bit more rewarding. And I'm dying to see I'm Not There. I think Christian Bale is turning into one of my favourite actors. And I remembered you yesterday cause they're advertising The Illusionist on HBO.
I watched Scoop yesterday. Pretty entertaining, but I don't know if I could stand Woody Allen in another film. He had anice part in this one, but I grew weary of him pretty quickly. I really loved Match Point though, and I liked Scarlett Johansson's performance in Scoop. But we already had the Match Point conversation. And the way they portrayed the grim reaper was so hilarious for some reason, that's my favorite image in the film. This has turned into kind of our movie journal, hasn't it? I like it ![]()
