if you say that there is an absolute accentless English, then it would be British, not american. I meant a french accent.

Re: Any Musicians in the house?

Australia is about as close to accentless actually. We're a strange mix that has flattened with more diverse immigration. I've been told a few times that I don't really have an accent. I mean I do of course because everybody has some kind of accent but some are less prominent. I mean it's pretty easy to tell the difference between Irish and American. Maybe the lack of accent is what makes it Australian lol. I can talk like Steve Irwin quite easily, but generally my voice is missing any sort of tweak to it, it's just straight and simple. Well that's how it'd be seen here anywhere. I doubt someone who lived in Wales all their life wouldn't laugh at my voice lol.

Anyway to the point, Savage Garden are from Brisbane like me and they have fairly straight voices too. I know exactly what you mean though. All singers lose at least a bit of their accent when they sing but some lose it all. On the Funeral For A Friend cd there's talking during one of the tracks and I laugh cos they're Welsh, but you could mistake them for American or anywhere when singing.

I think what is implied by "accentless", is a fairly straight voice that is difficult to classify. There's no nationality without an accent, but some tend to have weaker ones that are easily diminished and there's always people who just barely have any kind of noticable accent.

Re: Any Musicians in the house?

I heard Australians talking live a few times and that certainly wasn't accentless. Perhaps you just got used to your accent and it sounds natural to you. To me it's a mixture of British with some other accents. Though I must admit it's melodious and, well... funny a bit.

While singing lots of pop stars are completely accentless, yeah. Macy Gray is an exception, though.

Pete I gota say I agree with you here, But in Britain and other english speaking countries the tend to put lots of slang words in there talking, just like a person from the american south or a New york person, you notice the accent differance, but when most singers from differant backgrounds sing they most of the time sound like a american from california, where the accents are pretty much fadded out. If you ever listen to Nelly talk you'll notice she dosnet sound Canadian, like some will, like when she says words like "out" "about" and anything to that effect you'll notice she dosnt do what most canadians do when talking which is they'll pronounce "out" oooowt oh shit i'm bad at tryingh to write an accent ahahahha..... listen to avril laviegn and you'll see what I'm talking about ok

Re: Any Musicians in the house?

when I was little I could see no diff between Aussie & American accents! When I was older I could not tell between australian and s.african accents! Now, I am ok.
