Day of the Dead/Dias de los Muertos art. It's a November 2nd holiday celebrating dead loved ones and even popular dead icons. (Like Frida Kahlo and El Santo as seen below) I did these weeks before this past November. I'm not Mexican or even Latin, but I dig Latin cultures, so hey. Moving on...

First one's more kitschy. Frida's being rescued by the heroic El Santo. El Santo was a famous luchador with many films to his name. Off camera he was a big supporter of the community as well. And we all know who Frida is by now. I added their names in a poster style similar to the way Gustav Klimt's poster lettering style. (He was a kick ass Expressionist from Vienna, and a bit nutso!) But ok, just look already!

This one's more traditional. "Canci?n De Senorita"
Girl with guitar & monkey. Added a family member portrait for composition's sake, and to tie in with the importance of family with the Day of the Dead holiday. The highlights on the bones don't show up too well here. Also... Day of the Dead skellys still had bodily bulk, that's why she still has boobs!

And now a dancing senorita. I modeled her in a stylised, exaggerated way. Almost like those fashion illustrations. It came out more realistic than I planned, but I still have her neck elongated, with an almost inhumanly cat-like face, stylised hair, and spindly form.

Version 1...

This was too straight-forward, so I decided to take it in a different direction....
Version 2....

Much better! More antiquated, worn, and personal.
