So Nelly Furtado decided to cut Loose - a beat crazy third cd that turns up the fun and the funk. the grammy-winning singer song writer comes off like a quirky cross between gwen stefani and missy elliott - and in fact enlists elliott's long time producer Timbaland. The two prove unlikely kindred spirits. with his assorted bag of tricks - the trippy rhythms the jungle drums the spacey sound effects - and her vocal idosyncrasies, they feed off each other. On the contagioous first single Promiscuous furtado and timbaland engage in a sexy tease, taking turns on the mike as music shifts from middle eastern tinged hip-hop to '80s inspired synth pop. Elsewhere, Furtado channels early madonna on Do It while also dabbling in electronica (afraid) R&B (showtime) reggaeton (No Hay Igual) and latin pop (Te Busque). The disc comes to a meditative, melancholy end with All Good Things, which was co written by cold plays Chris Martin, is tailor-made for chilling out after all the clubbing is done.
